Thanks, Fiona! "There's nothing to lose now" is the starting point of most of the art and craft things I've made that I actually like! I've gotta go and cut out some fabric because I don't want to keep you waiting too long! :)

Thanks, Judy! Making clothes for monsters has helped me in somewhat the same way. Similarly, I am limited by what I can spend. I do have a lot of fabric though, so as long as I use what I already have I'll be okay. Actually, I had a rule to not buy any new fabric until I made at least ten things from the fabric I already have. I've lost count of the exact amount of items I've made since I started that, but I'm somewhere over ten and have extended it because I still can't afford to go fabric shopping and I still have a lot of fabric. It needs to be used. It doesn't mean anything just sitting on the shelf! Thanks for your comments! I'd love to see photos of your Barbie outfits and all the rest. Do you have them posted anywhere?

I'm the same way but when we were so poor and I had four kids to outfit, I started with making Barbie clothes for my nieces (that way if it was ugly, I could toss it and not feel guilty about wasting fabric), I learned to line and fit and lots of stuff that I needed to know. I then went on to make bathing suits and t-shirts and doll clothes and matching outfits for Kate ant a Holly Hobby dolll and once she got old enough I quit the whole thin altogether and now I just corchet and love it and the memories of my past successes and dismal fabric faialures.

GO LISE GO!
i never have time for dressmaking anymore either, and like you, i'm always too scaredy to go "wasting" beautiful fabric by cutting into it.
i recently (last year) finished an awesome skirt i abandoned in 2006. when i picked it up again my attitude was "there's nothing to lose now" ...and it turned out fab.

gorgeous pattern. i'm waiting for your update now :)
